These are the permanently closed Disneyland rides that fans are still upset about. Some of the closures happened decades ago while others are very recent. Some of them are closing to make room for new lands with new rides.
PeopleMover
The PeopleMover was located in Tomorrowland in Disneyland. It was open from 1967 to 1995. This ride can still be found in Magic Kingdom in Disney World, but Disneyland fans really miss having this relaxing attraction.
Adventure Thru Inner Space
Adventure Thru Inner Space was an attraction located in Tomorrowland in Disneyland park. It opened August 5, 1967 and closed permanently on September 2, 1985.
The Skyway
The Skyway was a gondola style attraction in Disneyland that took guests between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. It opened in 1956 and closed for good in 1994. This was a really cute attraction that guests loved relaxing on and getting great views of the park from.
Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue
Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue is a beloved attraction in Hollywood Land in California Adventure park. It is going to be closing permanently in early 2026 to make room for a new Avatar land that will have some rides. See a list here with new rides coming to Disney parks.
Splash Mountain
Splash Mountain was a popular log flume style water ride in Critter Country in Disneyland. It opened in 1989 and closed permanently in January of 2023. It was changed to be Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which opened in November of 2024.
Red Car Trolley
Red Car Trolley was a beloved attraction in California Adventure park. It operated from 2012 to 2020, then again from 2022 until it’s permanent closure in February of 2025. It closed to make room for the Avengers Campus expansion that will include new rides. It is unknown if this attraction will come back or not after the expansion is complete.
It’s Tough To Be A Bug
It’s Tough to Be A Bug was the main attraction in A Bug’s Land in California Adventure park. It was open from 2002 to 2018. The whole land closed to make room for Avengers Campus. While Avengers Campus is a popular area, fans are still sad that A Bugs Land closed.
Rocket Rods
Rocket Rods was an attraction in Tomorrowland in Disneyland. It used the track that the PeopleMover used. It had a short run only being open from May 1998 till April 2001.
Luigi’s Flying Tires
Luigi’s Flying Tires was an attraction that Cars Land opened with on June 15, 2012. It had a lot of problems and maintenance, so it permanently closed on February 17, 2015. The ride was changed and came back as Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters which opened on March 7, 2016.
Heimlich’s Chew Chew Train
Heimlich’s Chew Chew Train was a ride that was in A Bug’s Land in California Adventure. It was open from 2002 to 2018 when the whole land closed. See more permanently closed Disneyland rides here.
