No, overall Slinky Dog Dash is not a scary ride. It is a family friendly roller coaster. It has a much lower height requirement than other Disney World roller coasters, like Guardians Of The Galaxy, which is 42″.
It has a slow take off, but does get up to a fast speed. I’ll tell you exactly how fast later! It is very smooth and not rickety. It does not jerk you around. You will be comfortable on it.
It really is a family roller coaster that is pretty mild. Disney classifies it as a thrill ride with small drops.
If you’re worried it will be too scary for your kids, I suggest watching YouTube videos of the ride before going and seeing if you think it would be too intense for them.

There is a part in the ride about halfway through where the ride comes to a stop, you backup a little, then go again. That is the second launch and is the part that goes the fastest.
At that part you’ll hear Slinky Dog say “Hold on, here we go!”

Slinky Dog Dash Seats
Each row has two seats, so only 2 people can ride per row. It is not bench style like other rides. Both seats have their own lap bar that comes down rather than one long lap bar that goes across the whole row.
18 people can ride in a train at once and the ride has multiple trains.
The trains look just like Slinky Dog. The seats are where his coils are. It is easily the cutest ride train at Walt Disney World!
Each seat has it’s own pouch to put your bag or belongings in during the ride.
Why Is Slinky Dog Dash So Popular?
The main reason this ride is so popular is because of the theme. Pixar’s Toy Story movies are super popular and loved by children and adults.
It’s also popular because it’s a fun ride that is suitable for many to ride. With a lower height requirement than other rides, more children and toddlers are tall enough to go on it. So the ride queue is full of families rather than just adults like some of the more intense rides.
Another reason it is popular is because it is still not very old. It opened in 2018, so it’s not nearly as old as other rides like Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Test Track.
Conclusion
Slinky Dog Dash is not considered a scary ride. It is very cute and definitely worth going on for adults and for kids. It’s so fun to ride and look around at all the Toy Story details.
