These are all of the Disney World rides that permanently closed in the last 10 years. Some have been changed and rethemed to be other rides, while others have had to go for good. Some Disney World fans are sad about these closures and they are very missed.
The Great Movie Ride
The Great Movie Ride was open for many years from 1989 to 2017. It was in MGM Studios park, which was later renamed in Hollywood Studios. The building for this ride is now occupied by Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
Captain EO
Captain EO was located in EPCOT in Disney World. It was a Michael Jackson short film attraction. It was in EPCOT from 1986 to 1998, then again from 2010 to 2015.
Ellen’s Energy Adventure
Ellen’s Energy Adventure was an attraction that featured Ellen DeGeneres and Bill Nye the Science Guy teaching the audience about energy. It was in EPCOT from 1996 to August 13, 2017.
Liberty Square Riverboat
Liberty Square Riverboat closed permanently on July 7, 2025. The last day to go on it was July 6, 2025. It used to sail on the Rivers of America in Magic Kingdom, but the Rivers of America were closed. This is to make room for a new Cars Land called Piston Peak. Muppet*Vision 3D
Muppet*Vision 3D was an attraction in Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios park. It opened in 1991 and permanently closed on June 7, 2025. All of Muppets Courtyard closed to make room for a new Monsters, Inc. themed land.
Splash Mountain
Splash Mountain was a classic Magic Kingdom attraction. It was open for many decades from October 1992 to January 2023 when it closed permanently. It was changed to be Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
It’s Tough To Be A Bug
It’s Tough to be a Bug was an attraction in Animal Kingdom park from April 22, 1998 to March 16, 2025. It is going to be replaced with a new show called Zootopia: Better Zoogether!
Primeval Whirl
DinoLand USA in Animal Kingdom park used to have an attraction called Primeval Whirl. This was a mouse-trap style roller coaster that was open from March 31, 2002 to March 13, 2020.
TriceraTop Spin
TriceraTop Spin was a cute spinning attraction located in DinoLand USA in Animal Kingdom park. It had a good run opening on November 18, 2001 until it closed permanently on January 12, 2025.
