Disneyland was once going to get an attraction called Geyser Mountain which was going to drill guests into a geyser, then erupt sending them upward, similar to Tower of Terror. California Adventure was a flop though, so Disney decided to work on that park instead and decided to build Tower of Terror. Tower of Terror has since closed.
