The Rain at Disney World
Disney World experiences a lot of rainy days from June to October each year. However, most of the time, the rainfall won’t ruin your time there as it’s not overwhelming. Conversely, it’s usually a few hours of light rain.
So, unlike what you may expect, you can have tons of fun in Disney World on a rainy day. That’s why Disney World only closed three times in the past 20 years due to weather conditions.
That was because of rainy season hurricanes, not the rain itself.

You can enjoy almost all the EPCOT resort attractions and services on a rainy day as if it were a regular day. This is because this park only contains one outdoor attraction, and the rest of its activities are indoors.
For example, in The Future World area, you’ll find plenty of attractions, rides, and restaurants close to each other.
That way, you can move from one activity to another without walking in the rain. For shopping, World Showcase is an excellent place to go while it’s raining.
There is an indoor play area you can find by going through the exit of Test Track.
In addition, here’s a long list of indoor rides, attractions, and shows in EPCOT to give a try without having to get wet:
- Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros
- Frozen Ever After
- Soarin’ Around the World
- Journey Into Imagination With Figment
- Living with the Land
- The Sea with Nemo & Friends
- Mission: SPACE
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
- Spaceship Earth
- Turtle Talk With Crush
- Meet Anna and Elsa at Royal Sommerhus

Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios cancel many of their activities on rainy and lightning days. Though, they still contain many joyful things you can do on those days.
For example, Magic Kingdom has special shows for rainy days, like Rainy Day Cavalcade. The Festival of Fantasy Parade will get canceled if it is raining.
You can also meet princesses like Rapunzel and Cinderella at the Princess Fairytale Hall.
If there is lightning, Magic Kingdom will close the Liberty Belle Riverboat, Swiss Family Treehouse, and more.
As for Hollywood Studios, there are over 10 attractions you can visit through the rain.
Here’s a list of indoor activities to go for in these two parks while raining:

3. Start Your Day Early
On most days, rain starts in the afternoon at Disney World. So if you want to visit some outdoor attractions on a rainy day, get there early in the morning and do it before the raindrops start falling.
Still, check the weather before getting out to ensure the rain won’t change its timing on this particular day.
4. Eat, Shop or Enjoy a Spa Indoors
You can spend the hours of rain doing some indoor activities and then go out after the rain stops. For example, you can go for lunch at a Disney World restaurant. Another option is to go shopping at one of the many shopping destinations.
As a third alternative, you can relax in one of the few spa centers and have a chill time.
You could do some of these activities at Disney Springs, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and the Grand Floridian Resort.
5. Don’t Go to the Animal Kingdom Park

Because almost all its attractions are outdoors, you’ll find most of its activities are suspended in the rain. So, it’s not a good idea to visit this park at that time.
Nevertheless, in case you don’t want to follow this advice for any reason, here are a few indoor activities you can go for:
- Festival of the Lion King
- Finding Nemo
- It’s Tough to be a Bug!
- Na’vi River Journey
- DINOSAUR
- Avatar Flight of Passage
What to Pack When It Rains at Disney World?
To get the best experience on a rainy day at Disney World, ensure you bring the below items on your visit. These items are also great to bring with you to other theme parks like the Universal Orlando Resort (Universal Studios), SeaWorld Orlando, and Legoland.
1. Raincoats or Ponchos
A raincoat for each family member is highly recommended in such rainy weather. As a better alternative, bring ponchos, as they provide a little more protection.
It’s better to bring these than it is to buy them in the parks since they are expensive and the lines for them can get long.
If it doesn’t end up raining, you might still want to wear your poncho on water rides like Kali River Rapids.
2. Lightweight, Breathable Clothing
When dressing for a rainy day, stay away from cotton t-shirts and jeans. Instead, pick lightweight, breathable clothes with moisture-wicking fabric.
3. Water-Resistant Footwear
Bring water-resistant shoes for smooth and safe walking during rain. Make sure the shoes have a stable grip. Plus, it’s a good idea to bring an additional pair of socks to replace the wet ones after the rain.
4. Resealable Bags
Get a couple of Ziploc bags to carry your wallets, phones, or any objects that might get damaged when exposed to water.
5. One or a Few Small Towels
After the rain finishes, you’ll need to dry yourself and your objects off. That’s why a small towel for each family member will be a good idea.
6. Rain Cover for Stroller
If you’re accompanying your little one on this rainy adventure, you have to bring a rain cover for your stroller. A rain cover will cost you only a few bucks, but it’ll provide much protection for your baby and belongings.
Wrapping Up
When there’s rain at Disney World, things get a little different. However, with some preparation, you can have tons of fun in the theme park, so don’t be worried because if you have tickets Disney World is still a lot of fun.
In the EPCOT park, you’ll enjoy almost everything as normal. In Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, many activities will be canceled. Still, plenty of other activities will be available.
The only park that isn’t recommended in the rain is the Animal Kingdom. I hope these Disney World tips help you plan your next Disney World vacation!
