These are the expected closures at Disney World in August 2025 that we know about so far. These can change at any time and more can also be added. It is good to know about the closures before your trip so you can plan ahead and know what will and will not be available to experience.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is an interactive attraction in Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom. It is going to close on August 4th for some big refurbishments and is expected to reopen sometime in 2026. It will get new ride vehicles, new blasters, and other big updates to the ride.
Spaceship Earth
Spaceship Earth is scheduled to close on August 25th. This closure is for a refurbishment. It is expected to reopen sometime later in 2025.
Dumbo The Flying Elephant Playground
Dumbo the Flying Elephant has a playground in the queue of the ride that is currently closed. It was supposed to open in the spring, but still remains closed. It will likely open sometime later in 2025.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed in January of 2025 and will not reopen until sometime in 2026. This is a long closure because the ride is getting a major refurbishment done to it. It is unclear what exactly Disney is doing to the ride, but they had said that they are adding some extra magic to it. For now you will have to go to Disneyland to go on this ride. Starbucks on the West Side of Disney Springs
Starbucks on the West Side of Disney Springs is still currently closed. It is supposed to open in the summer, but an opening date is unknown.
Room Closures at Resorts
There are some room closures at resorts to update the rooms. The Contemporary Resort has some room closures at Bay Lake Tower.
The Boneyard
The Boneyard will close permanently on September 2nd. This is a playground area in DinoLand USA in Animal Kingdom park. This closure is coming to make room for a new Tropical Americas land that will have an Encanto ride and an Indiana Jones ride. Read about the new rides coming here.
Blizzard Beach
Blizzard Beach will close September 8th for seasonal maintenance. While it is closed, Typhoon Lagoon will remain open.
Upcoming Closures
There are some other upcoming closures to be aware of. Dinosaur will close permanently in early 2026, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will close in 2026 to change to Muppets, and The Skyliner will close January 25-31, 2026.
