Walt Wanted To Be The First Rider

Walt Disney was so excited about this ride that he wanted to be the first rider. The Imagineer and designer Bob Gurr and his son were actually first to ride it during early test runs though.
It’s A Scaled Replica

It is a scaled replica that is 1/100th the scale of the real Matterhorn mountain located in Switzerland.
It’s The First of Its Kind

This is Disneyland’s first roller coaster ever and it is the world’s first tubular steel roller coaster.
One Track Might Be Smoother

There are two tracks on this ride. Many guests think that the left track feels smoother than the right.
It Started As Dirt

The area Matterhorn is now at used to be a pile of dirt left from Sleeping Beauty Castle construction. The dirt mound was called Holiday Hill.
E-Ticket

Matterhorn Bobsleds was one of the first e-ticket attractions at Disneyland back when they had the ticket system where you needed a ticket for each ride you wanted to go on. E-ticket means it was popular and sometimes newer.
Inspired By The Real Mountain

The design for the Matterhorn Bobsleds was inspired by the actual Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps and looks very similar to it.

Matterhorn is the tallest structure in Disneyland park standing at 147 feet tall. Imagineers used forced perspective to make it look even taller though.

Matterhorn Bobsleds is home to the Abominable snowman named Harold.
